Lobster Claw and Pelican

Last night was a rare semi-clear night, so I tried for the Lobster Claw nebula. This was behind the neighbors’ house at first, so I started with the Pelican Nebula.

For the Pelican, I tried 45-second subs, and used the duo filter. This is a stack of 118 subs, processed in StellarStudio “auto”.

Then we focused on the Lobster Claw nebula. I was surprised to get only 34 subs in the stack. At first I guessed that it must have passed behind the neighbors’ house, or a tree, but it hadn’t. Instead, I think that something was shaking the camera, probably wind. Many of the subs were streaked. This was disappointing, especially since this was the first time I’ve ever got a deviation of 0 degrees on the polar alignment! I hadn’t checked the “wind” aspect of the forecast last night, but I bet it was a bit windy.

Anyway, here it is. Astro filter, StellarStudio “auto”.
