Pelican Nebula
I had wanted to image the Pelican Nebula from “monsters’ clubhouse”, but I couldn’t get polar aligned when I was ready for bed (too many clouds initially).
So, I decided to put Wormwood atop Galaxy, and test the new magnetic mount. This is basically a flat round magnet with a tripod screw, where the magnet is coated with material to keep it from scratching your car.
The magnetic mount worked well, but I wish I’d opted for the next strongest mount, since I worry that it’s a bit too small and weak. I think it’ll be fine, but I’d be happier if it was a bit over-protective from being blown off by unexpected winds.
Update 2025-09-30: I did end up getting the stronger mount after all. It’s maybe a bit overkill now, but if I add a geared alt/az adjuster, it will be a necessary thing.
Anyway, here is the Pelican Nebula. I’m not terribly happy with the results. 282 subs, 15 seconds, 60 gain, duo filter. Processed in StellarStudio “auto”.
