Astrophotography from the Flagstaff trip
Astronomy, Dwarf3, VanlifeOn the Flagstaff trip mentioned previously see (Some short term goals and Good to Stargaze), the skies were very clear and dark. I managed to get some photography done. The big challenge was the trees around our campsite. My solution was to “hide” the telescope near a trailhead that was near our campsite – yikes! It turned out okay, though.
Some short term goals
Astronomy A message from Slack outlining August astronomy imaging targetsGood to Stargaze
AstronomyLots of trees here at our campsite, but if I can shoot through the gaps, this will be the best observing I’ve seen since Back Mesa in Oklahoma!
Lobster Claw and Pelican
Astronomy, Dwarf3Last night was a rare semi-clear night, so I tried for the Lobster Claw nebula. This was behind the neighbors’ house at first, so I started with the Pelican Nebula.
Pelican Nebula
Astronomy, Dwarf3I had wanted to image the Pelican Nebula from “monsters’ clubhouse”, but I couldn’t get polar aligned when I was ready for bed (too many clouds initially).
Garnet Star (again) and Pleiades During Occultation
Astronomy, Dwarf3On a rare clear night, I took another series on the Garnet Star, this time with the duo filter. The goal is to catch some nebulosity around the Garnet, and maybe bring this out via PixInsight or similar.
Dumbbell Nebula
Astronomy, Dwarf3After failing to get the Dumbbell Nebula, M 27, a few nights ago, I decided to put the telescope on top of the van and try again. I had recently taken some darks with the gain set to higher-than-60, so I decided to try 80. Here’s the dumbbell, 482 lights at 15 seconds, 80 gain.
Garnet Star; Failed Dumbbell Nebula
Astronomy, Dwarf3I got a decent picture of the Garnet Star in Cepheus last night. It was taken with the astro filter. I’d like to try it again with the duo filter, since there should be more nebulosity in the frame.
Crescent Nebula
Astronomy, Dwarf3Last night I got C 19, the Crescent Nebula. 224 stacked images, out of a possible ~300. Not sure if it was clouds or ground-based obstacles. I need to start looking at the subs to see what happened. 60 seconds, 60 gain, duo filter. Processed in Stellar Studio auto.
